To try to make that the case for myself I am resolved (not resolving, this isn't something new) to release my board game either as a product for sale or as a downloadable game some time during this year. I do feel like I'm getting close to a good product but definitely needs more refinement.
Welcome to the new year! Hopefully 2015 finds you better than 2014 did and may 2016 find you better than 2015 does now!

I went for a nice little walk today from Two River's Park to Office Depot in Glenwood Springs (to say hi to some former coworkers). While I was walking back from Office Depot to my car I started thinking about how much better shape I'm in now than when I first moved here 3 years ago.
According to google maps the walk from Two River's Park to Office Depot is 2.8 miles, so 5.6 round trip. I did chat with a coworker at Office Depot for about 40 minutes so it wasn't all in one go but still a decent walk all done in under 3 hours, it took me about 50 minutes to walk each way. It was a very easy pleasant walk. Compare that to a walk I went on when I first was looking for a place to stay in Glenwood. I walked from the hotel I was staying at to downtown Glenwood and back. According to google maps thats 2.2 miles. By the time I got back to my hotel I wasn't doing too well. Breathing was pretty hard, my legs were burning, all in all not doing too well. I'm not sure how much of that has to do with exercise and how much has to do with getting used to the air. I wasn't exactly sedentary in Kansas, especially by Kansas standards. Hikes and kayaking were both reasonably common activities for me. Either way though it feels great to finish a walk like that and not even notice that I was on one. I am currently reading a book called Dataclysm: Who We Are When We Think No One's Looking. Its a book that uses big data to take a look at who we are as people. As with all big data projects individuals are completely lost. The information doesn't really help an individual figure out how to act or what they should do. It can only look at how the great masses of people do act and how their actions are viewed by the great masses of people.
I must say this book is both incredibly interesting and incredibly depressing. Its very interesting because it shows that its better to embrace that what makes you different publicly. Yes it will result in some people rejecting you but it will also attract many people to you. Makes sense. However, it also shows that an important factor to a woman getting a job is how pretty she is, regardless of the gender of the person doing the hiring. It also shows that being white automatically makes people far more attractive to the general public, with the exception of black women who find white men significantly less attractive than the general public. Its a very good and well written book, even if it does make me want to cry some times. I was looking through some of my old posts and saw that the link to Star Wars the Musical is now dead so I found another site, gotta love viemo. This is very well done and a lot of fun. Its kinda old so the video quality isn't that great but it is very worthwhile to watch.
Star Wars the Musical Act I Part I Hiked up Storm King today with a friend who introduced me into the world of identifying lichens. It was a lot of fun. I had some how managed to miss that the trail splits right before you get to the main memorial for the fire fighters so we hiked up both sides. The weather was perfect for hiking. While I took a couple jackets just in case I did most of the hike in a tee-shirt. I love hiking in the winter you usually don't run into many people.
This is an older TED talk but its been meaningful to me for a while so I thought I'd share it in case you haven't seen it. In the talk Kathryn Schulz talks about the importance of not just understanding in the abstract that you, I, am fallible but understanding in this moment that I am wrong about many things and to embrace one's own fallibility not as a defect to be hidden and suppressed but rather as a beautiful part of humanity. For unless we can as individuals and groups stop treating errors as moral flaws we are doomed to be unable to see our own errors.

So I suppose I should actually update it occasionally. I've started a new website over at battleone.weebly.com for the games that I'm working on. I'm going to use this website for any non game stuff that I work on and am also going to make a little RGSS3 tutorial page for people that already know how to program here. This will be more of a way to help myself learn how to work in the new environment that I'm currently playing with, RPG Maker VX Ace.
I am still working slowly on a larger project in Unity but need some help with art and so am not making much progress. I've moved back to my home town and so am hopeful that I'll be able to find some people to work with. However, at the moment I'm limited the majority of my work to projects that I can finish alone. This is an amazing High School musical version of Star Wars: A New Hope. It is pretty amazing. Darth Vader is a bit weak but Leia is amazing and the rest of the main cast are quite impressive. The score comes from various musicals, Les Miserable, Grease, Miss Saigon among many others. This is definitely worth watching.

I stumbled across a site that lists 15 Crazy Lawsuits that Make You Want To Sue Someone. Now all of the lawsuits listed are frivolous and stupid. One in particular really annoyed me. This is going to be a little place for me to put all the little projects that I work on. Expect video games, short stories, and other creative endeavors! Hopefully you'll find something here that entertains or educates, although I'm definitely short on that right now... I do have one of my short stories up, A Mother's Joy, check it out and let me know what you think! Contact Me! |
